It is a great honour to serve the community of Roberts Creek as your Area Director on the SCRD Board. Like you, I love this community and share your passion for our precious natural environment. I am doing what I can to preserve it and I am inspired by the creativity, skill, caring and involvement of the people who call this special place home.
A review of Roberts Creek's Official Community Plan (OCP) has been underway for several years and has been given first reading. That kicks off the official public comment period which will run into the beginning of 2012 and will include a variety of feedback opportunities. In 2008 a 15 member OCP Review Committee began the process by going out to the community to get your guidance in developing the vision for Roberts Creek for the next 15-20 years. The outcome of that initial visioning meeting has not only guided the Review committee in their work on the OCP, but has provided me with a sense of what your priorities are. We learned that you love the diversity of Roberts Creek and want to ensure that we remain an inclusive and compassionate community which welcomes, respects and meets the needs of a diverse range of individuals. You cherish our spectacular natural environment, from the forest to the sea, and you want to ensure that biodiversity, habitat, clean water and air continue to be protected. You appreciate the rural character of Roberts Creek, and although you want more places to gather and a lively 'downtown,' you want it to remain small scale and in keeping with the special ambiance it currently has. You want to be more self sufficient with our food production, support local agriculture and have more opportunities to buy locally produced food. You want better, safer ways to get around without cars and you want our parks network to be enhanced and maintained. I share this vision and it has been my guide in all of the work that I have done at the SCRD.

Dave Ryan is alternate for the Director.
Dave moved to Roberts Creek in 2007 from the Upper Skeena where he served a two year term as a Councilor for the Village of Hazelton, was a board member of the Historic K'san Village, and worked in Community Economic Development primarily in Sustainable Agriculture initiatives. A couple of those initiatives were: a collaborative project that included the University of Northern BC, the BC Ministry of Agriculture and the Gitxsan First Nation and authored the Upper Skeena Sustainable Agriculture Plan.
Dave (Farmer Dave) deceloped the Gumboot Gardens known locally as the "100 Foot Diet." Dave sits on the Sunshine Coast Agriculture Advisory Committee. Dave is also involved in an agricultural project to reclaim lands at the Construction Aggregates mine site.
