Backyard Burning

Backyard Burning
Effective January 1, 2009, there are new regulations regarding backyard burning in Roberts Creek. These regulations were developed with a great deal of community input and have been put in place to limit air pollution and reduce both health and environmental impacts. The regulations permit backyard fires only on properties of 1 hectare or larger and only between April1 – 15 and between October 15 – November 15 when the Ventilation Index is “good”. A permit for other properties may be applied for by contacting the SCRD office or the Roberts Creek Fire Department. The regulations do permit small campfires for the purpose of warmth, cooking or ceremony. The regulations do not affect wood stoves.
